Waiting at Woodies and some good old friends
End of October it was time to finally leave Geraldton and move to Perth. The first job interviews were calling, and it seemed as if summer had finally reached the WA metropole. We spent some emotionally very moving 5 weeks at the Holiday Park at Woodman Point, with some good and less good surprises, but all turned out good in the end, with a bit of patience.
Thought it would be easy to look for work, a new home, and do some kitesurfing at the end of the day? Well, the first good old friend persisted in the form of La Nina, which is still dominating the climate and disturbing the Fremantle Doctor - the Southerly seabreeze that is expected daily through the summer, bringing relief to the heat-suffering population, and joy to us kite- and windsurfers. This year it appears as if that doctor is suffering some strange illness... Well, taking it from the sunny side, it did make it a bit easier for us to look for a new home: most viewings usually took place at the end of the day when the wind would normally kick-in. So more or less lucky it didn't, but it did save some frustration. Another old friend we had nearly forgotten about, was the rain with its unpredictable returns, making our camping task somewhat difficult. Lucky the campsite had some good permanent shelter. Spending long time in one of the only campings in town, we had the opportunity to meet lots of new faces, as well as surprise one or the other we had met earlier on our trip further North. The traveller world is small, after all. The best part of the five week period was when I had a good old friend from Switzerland come and give us a courtesy visit. We could only offer him a thousand star tent, as he left a few days before we could move into our new home. We took advantage of the situation and spent another week racing our Prado into the beautiful areas around Shark Bay and Kalbarri.
This time it was with the girls only, Anh-Dao had to stay in Perth, as our car was only allowed four passengers...(that's the other old story in Tom Price...) Stephan's presence was bringing me good luck in finding a decent job, and a few great evenings out - those of a kind a young father starts to miss too often ;-) Thanks mate!!!
The poor bloke had to experience OZ the hard way - without airconditioner... but we were lucky we could make the trip at all - one week before he arrived, we'd detected a fuel leak at the high-pressure fuel-pipe. The kind guys from the RAC managed to fix it, but broke the aircon belt instead, and the new belt could only be installed with a new spare part which had to be flown in from the East Coast... Life is never as smooth as one would like to dream... Call me a dreamer anyway, that's what keeps me afloat!
